Of the philosophies that we have discussed in class, I think I am most humanistic. My understanding of the matter is that you have to seek the individual’s development in order to go on about teaching. As the teacher I may have to find several different ways of teaching one thing and be able to explain it differently to children that don’t understand. The overall goal of education is to provide diversity of common knowledge, and basic skills to move on to higher levels of education. Also important is teaching children how to function as a whole, as an individual, and how to react with other children. The educator’s role is to be the best role model that he/she can be. To be able to answer questions, and be there for the children when they need help or if something is wrong. Another thing is to provide academics that children can grasp the meaning of and put their own words and use it in the future. As an educator you need to be able to provide positivity and able to be stern, but nice in all different ways. The role of the students is to participate in activities and to do the work given to them. They will need to ask for help if they want/need it. Also the children will need to take part in daily activities and clean up times, as well as naptime. The family’s role is to make sure that children are getting enough sleep at night and are getting the proper nutrients that they need, and making sure that they are clean.
